See historical notes for 'Karamu' on record HBR/0117. 'This Canary Island pine is a very big and healthy tree. I hope the people, who rent the paddock behind the house leave the tree alone'. Looij 1984. 'The best Canary Island pine in New Zealand for combined size and form is at Karamu, Hastings the former home of Mrs. C. Weir, whose grandfather the Hon. J.D.
