Registration Category: Notable tree/s – Local interest
General Notes:

This is a unsuspecting example of Chinese juniper, quite possibly being the largest of its species in Auckland. A lovely and full, slow-growing tree existing awkwardly beside/beneath a large and imposing English oak tree. How much taller could it be had it been allowed to 'stand up straight' in the most recent years of its life? To look closely at the foliage of this tree would reveal its interesting two stage juvenile and mature foliage types, lending an easy identification tip to the genus Juniperus.
This is not a huge tree on its own merit but when set against giants, as it is here at Monte Cecilia Park, this tree should most definitely be appreciated for its size and age (VanWijngaarden, R. 2012).

Information about Monte Cecilia Park, it's many fine specimen trees, architecture and cultural history can be found by referring to the following listing, AR/G0984.
