The largest recorded tree of this species in the world (NZNTT, 2009).

This tree was noted in Burstall and Sale's book 'The Great Trees of New Zealand' but was named as Eucalyptus macarthurii in error. ref pg. 81. The tree is one of many outstanding blue gums in this region. There is no recorded history of how the tree came to be planted but it is considered to be c1850. The very large buttress (lignotuber) attracts many children from the nearby school to play beneath the tree. Earlier diameter records include: 244cm 1966, 275cm 1984. The tree is listed on the Tasman Resource Management Plan as PT702 (Cadwallader B.G., 2009).
