This tree has been historically claimed to be the largest European beech in NZ but it is unfortunately a multi-stemmed tree (NZNTT, 2024).
E.T. Rogers and his wife planted the tree in 1912, their son Denis Rogers went on to become Mayor of Hamilton during the time of great change and improvement to the City. Information about the beech was gathered and presented by Burstall and Sale in 1984 in their book ‘Great Trees of New Zealand (Bianchin, M. 2002). Ref.
