A fine mature mataī estimated to be approximately 400 years old, and one of the larger specimens in Hay Scenic Reserve. It is surrounded by mature kahikatea, mataī, and lowland tōtara, with a well-developed hardwood understory—typical of this remnant lowland podocarp forest type (Evans, B., 2025).
