General Notes:
|
The olive tree is a well-known biblical symbol of peace. This tree reflects this, being planted on 6 August 1972 - Peace Sunday – in a small garden at the back of St Peter's Anglican Church in central Wellington (see photo of the plaque for planting details). It had aboricultural attention about 10 years ago and is now in excellent health, making an impressive sight against the backdrop of the church building. The bole is typical of olives with its attractive gnarly, knobbly features. The small raised garden where the olive is the central feature is beside a walkway along the north side of the church, and is used as a gathering place before and after church services (Lloyd, M., 2024).
