Tree Information x

Identifier: WKR/1998
Tree Type: Single
Registered By: Morrison, J.W.
Registration Category: Notable tree/s – Local interest
General Notes:
About 50km out of Auckland CBD stands this big old kahikatea in a large area of old growth forest in the heart of the Hunua ranges. Trees of this size would have been common in and around the Auckland isthmus 200 years ago but the large extent of forest clearance through logging and fire has pushed true remaining examples of old growth podocarp forest to the heart of the Hunua ranges. This tree is close to 6 metres in circumference and is at least 40 m tall. The tree is in reasonable health and appears to be many centuries old (Morrison, J.W., 2024).
