This London plane is dedicated to Sapper, Leslie G. Ching, who, having survived the war, was discharged to the UK on 1 January 1919. While on leave there he caught Spanish influenza and died of pneumonia at Craigleith Military Hospital, Edinburgh on 22 Jan 1919. The 33 year old is buried at Comely Bank Cemetery, Edinburgh, Scotland.
The tree was planted along with others in conjunction with the unveiling of the Stoke First World War Memorial Gates in 1924 commemorating the lives of 7 Stoke men "who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War".
