General Notes:
A fine example of the cultivar situated at the rear of Anderson House in what was formerly known as Victoria Park.

In 1910, prominent businessman Robert Anderson (later Sir Robert) and his wife Elizabeth Walker bought this 300-acre neglected block of land, attracted by the 50 acres of native bush on the property.

The couple had a passion for horticulture and before long, extensive flower gardens were soon developed. The magnificent homestead, which was built in 1925 at a cost of £10,000.

Sir Robert Anderson died in 1942, at the age of 76 and Lady Anderson in 1951, at the age of 86. The children carried out their parents’ wishes by donating the home and grounds to the city of Invercargill. In recognition of the gift, the City Council decided to rename the property Anderson Park.
