A fine commemorative double avenue of Podocarpus totara. In 1949 Charles Hansen planted 39 tōtara trees, which stand as a memorial for 41 (two people were added to the list after the trees were planted) former Tauranga District High School students who were killed in World War II (1939-1945). These trees border Nicholson Field, part of what is now Tauranga Boys’ College (McCauley, N.D). The line of trees is known locally as the ‘Memorial Grove’ (Crawford, T., 2022).
