General Notes:
|
This impressive puriri sits in the 5.54 hectare Kirks’ bush near Great South Road in Papakura, Auckland. Nearby is a larger double-stemmed puriri. This splendid reserve with impressive broadleaf podocarp forest includes fine tall puriri, pukatea, taraire, karaka, rimu, kauri, kahikatea, totara, rewarewa and miro.
The reserve is named after a pair of brothers who owned it from 1894-1918. It was purchased by Dr A.W.P. Brookfield who offered it for sale to the town board in 1919. It was then considered the last extensive stand of timber on the sparsely forested Papakura flat (Barker, K.P., 2022). |
