Tree Type: Single
Registered By: Rendell, J.J.
Registration Category: Notable tree/s – Local interest
General Notes:
All visitors to this wonderfully restored Heritage NZ category 2 home and 5.3ha garden estate pass beneath this graceful Camperdown elm arching over the driveway.
The house was designed in 1880 by the man responsible for many of Ōamaru’s ornate Victorian buildings, Scots-born Thomas Forrester. his client was John Campbell Gilchrist, the first Mayor of Ōamaru. Brookfield remained in the family until the 1960s.
After falling to disrepair for many years it has been meticulously brought back to life by current owner Jennifer Rendell (NZNTT, 2022).
