Large old Sweet Chestnut tree found on the grounds of Royal Oak Intermediate School in Auckland. This tree is one of two listed in the Auckland list of schedule 10 protected trees. The second tree was not found and may have died?
The area occupied by the school was once the site of the "Boyd Zoo" which housed up to 2000 animals. The Zoo was opened in 1912 and was noted for it's gardens. The site was also used as a temporary field hospital during WW2 (Barker, K. P., 2022) |
