General Notes:
|
Milnthorpe Park is an excellent example of the use of exotics in NZ forest restoration. In 1974 attempts were made by the former Lands and Survey to replant the degraded coastal land in native trees but the project failed. Eucalyptus and acacia were later trialed and 38 years later native trees have now become well-established as an understory. This tree highlights the exceptional growth of the initial planting (Mason, E. G., 2021).
