General Notes:
|
A fascinating tree with 5 main stems arising from ground level. The nearby obelisk lists the names of the 60 or so known burials at the site. Many of those memorialised were children, and several were people who died at sea on their way to New Zealand (Batchelor, S. B., 2021).

Species: | giganteum | |
Common names: | giant sequoia, giant redwood, Sierra redwood, Wellingtonia
Height: | 38.00m | |
Height measurement method: | Estimated
Height Comments: | I estimated the height of this tree by noticing that it was 2.25 times the size of the Monkey Puzzle (OR/1407) behind it. The Monkey Puzzle is recorded to be about 17m tall. And since this Giant Sequoia appeared to be 2.25 times taller, then it would mostly likely be about 38m tall. |
