Tree Information x

Identifier: AR/1735
Tree Type: Single
Registered By: Smillie, M.J.
Registration Category: Notable tree/s – Local interest
General Notes:
This eponymous tree is one of the few remaining large kauri in Auckland that is accessible due to track closures to protect the trees from kauri die-back. A few metres off Scenic Drive, some 4 km north of Waiatarua, this specimen is certainly large(ish), but more so a squat, wide tree, branching only 5 or 6 m above its base. The very short track has been recently re-opened, with a cleaning station for disinfecting footwear right at the start. The girth was not directly measured, but the reported 7 m girth, or 2.2 m dbh, visually appears accurate (Smillie, M.J., 2021).
