A large totara that serves as a long tailed Bat roost in Talbot forest, Geraldine. The tree is, while visible from Tripp Street, is very hard to get to due to thick bush including some nasty blackberries. The trunk unusually broadens up the trunk.
Talbot forest is a remnant of podocarp forest that at one time extended up to Mt Peel. Signage suggests that the tree is 800 years old (Barker, K. P., 2019). |
