A prominent specimen located within the grounds of the historic Melanesian Mission Building at the western end of Mission Bay. The companion tree nearby has died back and has been reduced to about 8m. Both trees are reported to have been planted on the 24 February 1861 by Bishops George Augustus Selwyn and John Coleridge Patteson. Bishop Selwyn was the first Anglican Bishop of New Zealand (Cadwallader 2013).
