General Notes:
|
This immense rimu is found on the rimu walk at Otanewainuku Forest, Oropi in the Bay of Plenty. It sits beside the track and is found a few hundred metres into the north entrance of the walk. It is close to a large fallen rimu which has an orange forest sign on it. Hidden by supplejack and other vines this ancient tree has a huge debris mound at its base similar to a large kauri. The tree appears to be dying and decay is evident at it's base.
This forest has impressive birdlife, North Island robins, tomtit and tui were plentiful (Barker, K. P., 2020). |
