A substantial tree that would be easy to overlook. New Zealand has many world beaters of this species throughout the country, this tree could well be in that class. Other very large trees include the 1984 national champion located near Geraldine (Ht: 48.7m, DBH: 245cm) and the Mount Peel Station Tree (Ht: 50.1m DBH: 268cm) 'Great Trees of NZ', Burstall and Sale 1984 pg. 218. Updates on the staus of these trees is being sought.

Location Description: The tree is a short distance from the Brooklands Zoo carpark. Walk south and turn right at the large copper beech on the lawn, there is a track that begins on the bush edge. Walk ten metres along the track and head left off the track through the bush to the base of the tree.
